Salamanca May 24-26

In the last few days of May before my last two exams, Laura and I visited her sister and some of her friends from university in Salamanca.
Salamanca is about 3 hours from Vitoria but that changes that happen along the way are insane. You go from the lush, rainy, mountainous Basque Country to the very very flat region of Castilla y León.  It was also about ten degrees warmer there than in Vitoria, so it was a welcome change for a weekend.

Colegio Mayor de Santiago el Zebedeo

I've seen these storks all over Spain.  They are massive and they make huge nests often times in the churches.

The view from the top of the Scala Coeli of the Colegio Real de la Compañía de Jesús, a private Jesuit university.  Salamanca had the bluest sky I had ever seen.

One of the two cathedrals in Salamanca.

Further climb up Scala Coeli to the bell towers.

I would soon be in that plaza.

View from the plaza of Casa de las Conchas, looking up to the towers that Laura and I were previously in.

The sanctuary in the Jesuit university.

The next four pictures are by Laura, but they help you see more of what we did in Salamanca!

Laura went to the university in Salamanca so she took me on a tour of some of her favorite places while she studied there, one of them being O'Hara's where we picked up delicious Guinness.  Also while at this pub, a Spanish guy guessed that I was from South Africa and then professed he had never met an American before (a total load, since Salamanca is crawling with us).

Laura collects photos of her friends and herself jumping in places that she visits.  Here I am with her sister Julia, jumping in Plaza Mayor.

Me between the towers at Scala Coeli

Myself, Julia, Kelly, and Laura in Plaza Mayor at night.  Kelly and Laura studied together in Salamanca and oddly enough she is from Winston-Salem!  She was the first American I met in Spain and she was such a joy!  She had a very VERY rough trip with her husband through Spain but she kept a smile the whole time!

On the way back to Salamanca we watched the weather change drastically the very second we entered Pais Vasco.  Before we entered we could see that the sky was black in the distance and Laura, very correctly, identified it as Mordor.  However, what greeted us was a rainbow and a serious storm that followed us the rest of the way home, but the result was beautiful.

That's it for Salamanca.  I've only got a few weeks left here in Spain so I'll be working on catching y'all up with what's been happening here in Vitoria.  Also, this coming Thursday I'll be heading up to Germany for a fun filled 6ish days with Jasmine!
